Rye, Ribs and a Real good time at Jackson + Rye Kingston

We visited Jackson + Rye Kingston a couple of weeks ago for an exclusive and very exciting Rye Tasting event, accompanied by 15 lucky winners of the public, each with a plus one guest. The evening went down a treat!

As a food and drink PR agency we were delighted to put our taste buds to the test on some of the best American whiskey and Ryes on the market. We also learnt some interesting facts about Rye and whiskey from expert James Goggin who hosted the night.

If we had to pick two of our favourites from the night, they would have to be The Copper Fox and The Rittenhouse. The Copper Fox is a ‘Rye Spirit’ from the makers of Wasmund‘s Single Malt and is made at the eponymous Copper Fox distillery in Virginia. A sweet Rye, rich and homely, with flavours of baking spices – cinnamon, nutmeg and cocoa – along with stewed fruits. The Rittenhouse is one of the most popular brands in the UK and this one specifically was over 90% Rye. It was a smooth, toasted Rye with touches of honey, oak, pipe tobacco and caramel – peppery with a hint of honey underneath and a slight touch of oranges as the spice fades, along with a hint of cola. We definitely recommend giving them both a try! 

It appears that whiskey isn’t just for the old boys now… Jackson + Rye hope to see many more Rye tasting events similar in other branches, so watch this space! 

In the meantime, Jackson + Rye will be offering Rye and whiskey taster nights every Wednesday, also known as ‘Flight Nights’ offering 25% off on all flights – you heard it here first, Wednesdays are the new Fridays.
