Me:Mo Interactive to launch new restaurant venture from Japan Centre, Sakagura.

4 October 2016

Distinctively different Japanese restaurant launches this Autumn

This November, Sakagura will launch onto the London restaurant scene. A new international Japanese dining experience and sake bar located in amongst the popular food and drink hotspot of Heddon Street, W1B

Representing a stylish and intimate dining destination for Londoners, serving exquisite yet accessible Japanese cuisine, Sakagura will be the first joint venture between the Japan Centre Group; sake Royal Warrant holders – Gekkeikan; Japanese plum wine brand Choya; the Toridoll Corporation and a two-Michelin star Japanese restaurant for seasonal collaborations.

Set across two floors, diners can choose to be seated on the ground floor in small intimate dining booths with a dedicated sake bar, or propped up at the traditional 11-seater wooden kappo counter in the basement to watch the chefs at work, nestled in amongst the sake cellar. Drawing inspiration from merging traditional with a contemporary design twist, the juxtaposition of the interiors will see dark wood paneling, sake barrels and noren curtains against cool rough copper, brass and timber textured concrete creating a sophisticated and atmospheric dining experience.

Serving authentic Japanese washoku, honoured by UNESCO, on its Intangible Cultural Heritage list, which aims to protect intangible aspects of culture. This every-day style of cooking and cuisine at Sakagura will tempt, educate and delight diners from all around the world. The lunch and dinner menu based on washoku will incorporate a harmonious mix of rice, miso, pickled vegetables, fish and meat into each meal with an emphasis on seasonal ingredients.

The truly unique offering created by Executive Chef, Kanji Furukawa and Head Chef, Jin Yackshin, celebrate their passion for authentic cooking with an intrinsic eye for detail, and will showcase the classic elements of washoku cuisine, harmony and balance, taste, texture, presentation and seasonality.

SUSHI, SKEWERS & BENTO

Feast your eyes on a range of Hakata yakitori (robata-grilled dishes): Kurobuta – Berkshire black pork belly with halen mon sea salt; Tuna Nigiri Sushi – freshly prepared tuna sushi hand brushed with soy sauce and Wagyu Steak – Japanese wagyu beef steak served with hojiso. Selections of freshly sliced sashimi and delicately rolled sushi will span from Maguro Avocado Tartare with Cotswold Legbar yolk and yuzu lemongrass to Kampachi Carpaccio – yellowtail served with house sudachi dressing. From every-day dishes including hand-pulled udon and soba noodles, to more intricate tasting menus, save room for Tiger Ebi – tiger prawns with moshio salt & lemon and the king of the sea, Lobster – fresh lobster served on individual Japanese shichirin stoves.

The star of the show, Shokado Bento, comprises seven dishes: sashimi, agemono, tofu, salad, yakimono, seasonal rice & miso soup, each perfectly showcasing the classic elements of washoku cuisine – harmony and balance, taste, texture and presentation.

SIPS & SAKE

Discover the finely curated and well-stocked sake cellar, serving selected choices and championed labels handpicked from Gekkeikan – one of oldest sake companies in the world. Neatly served in masu cups, sake-lovers will find it hard to leave here.

A carefully compiled list will boast one of the largest selections of sake in London alongside varieties of Japanese whisky, rum, a selection of umeshu, flavoured sake, shochu, craft beers and spirits as well as wines by the glass and bottle.

Don’t miss out on the limited edition sake-based Japanese cocktails created by expert mixologists and sake sommeliers. There are no holds barred with Whisky Risky – a herbal blend of Hakushu 12-year whisky, green Chartreuse, Namazake, citrus fruits and mint leaves and Karai Sake – chilli infused sake mixed with silver tequila, Agave syrup and grated ginger for that added zing! Furano Fields – a floral and fruity concoction with lavender, Namazake, Jinzu gin, apricot brandy, passion fruit finished with fresh lavender and Okinawan Dragon – with dragon fruit, cachaca, Japanese rum for an extra kick.

Underpinning all this, will be the spirit of Japanese hospitality, omotenashi ensuring a unique dining experience that is both relaxed yet steeped in tradition and harmony. From the moment you arrive, right up to when you leave, omotenashi is adopted to meet and exceed expectation across all levels of service and customer satisfaction.
